BS Supplies Becomes International Applications Distributor
8 March 2017
Stoke-based coatings and consumables distributor BS Supplies has begun a new partnership with International Applications (IAL), which sees the Oxfordshire supply chain specialist acquire the family-run distribution business.
Paul O'Reilly, MD of BS Supplies, said, "Ours is a dynamic and fast-moving business with a huge amount of potential for growth. We have continually built our customer base and product range, and are keen to push on with the next phase of our development."
"BS Supplies has worked closely with IAL for some time and I have been impressed with the engagement of the senior management team and with the range of commercial services they have to offer. As we grow the business it is important that we find the right partners and the investment agreement we have reached with Llewelyn and his team puts us in an excellent place for the future."
"I am delighted to welcome Paul and BS Supplies into the IAL family," said Llewelyn Mulder, MD of IAL. "We're keen to actively support the growth of BSS in the years to come through our investment and will be providing the strategic direction, commercial management and technical support which Paul and his team require as they continue to build sales."
BS Supplies joins Paintstore, Leamington Spa, as a key distribution partner for IAL, which recently announced that it had secured investment from Eguchi Iwao, Japan's leading supplier of automotive and industrial paints and coatings.
"Our plan is to create a fresh approach for distribution within the UK," continued Mr Mulder. "We will build a strong network of independent distributors which benefits from centralised commercial services but continues to offer the personal touch and exceptional levels of customer care."
"Independent distribution is the lifeblood of this industry and I have met a number of passionate, dedicated and entrepreneurial distributors who share my vision for the future. Together we are strong - and we are working with sister companies across the DAC Group to bring unique and tangible benefit to our distributors and their customers."
BS Supplies was founded in 1979 by Paul's parents Michael and Phyllis O'Reilly. The trading name was derived from Body Shop Supplies as the core activity was supplying replacement body panels, consumables and ancillaries to local car body repair shops. Having worked part time within the business from a very early age, Paul joined the company in 1997 upon completion of his Business Degree. Paul purchased the business in 2001 and has diversified and expanded operations, relocating to new premises across four units in 2009 and currently employing 21 members of staff.
IAL, which acquired the Trade Group in 2015, supplies paints, coatings and consumables as a refinish wholesale distributor. It also operates a specialist line-side supply service to automotive OEM and industrial customers, offering process engineering, technical support, new-product introduction and cost-down activity.
The company has featured three times in the Sunday Times Virgin Fast Track 100. It is the UK distributor of General Paints, Kovax, Lake Country, Allchem and T-Euro, and has a paint portfolio which includes Nexa Autocolour, PPG, Max Meyer, Glasurit and RM. Its 6,000m2 distribution centre in Banbury is the base for global operations in Africa and South America.
